What's in the name
Petstra was the surname of Jan’s maternal grandfather, Jan Petstra, and is a unique name belonging to only one family worldwide.
Originating in the northern part of the Netherlands, The Petstras are a family of entrepreneurs, owning businesses ranging from camping and sports stores to pharmacies and shoe repair outlets.
Opa Jan was the local greengrocer in the village of Hollandscheveld in the Netherlands, with a retail shop and a delivery service, as seen in this picture. He was also an avid gardener, with a market garden and greenhouses, and was an important teacher and influence on Jan Meinsma when he was a boy.
Jan says naming his business after his grandfather pays homage to his heritage and reflects his family’s values of integrity, fairness and honesty.

FAQ's
Creating a garden is a consultative process, so the first step is to consider what you want from your garden and come up with a landscape plan.
At Petstra Gardens, our Melbourne landscape gardeners can assist you with a simple garden design plan that shows the flow between different spaces, their dimensions, and plant selections.
Alternatively, we can work according to a detailed design that you or your landscape designer/architect provides us with.
The cost of a landscaped garden varies depending on factors such as the size of the project, the complexity of the landscape design, and the selection of materials.
Petstra Gardens understands the importance of budget considerations, which is why we issue a clear, detailed quotation with invoicing done in stages.
When planning to build a new garden, there are several cost factors to consider.
These include:
• Garden design and structural drawings
• Building permits (if required)
• Plants
• Materials, labor, and ongoing maintenance
There are many levers we can pull to bring the cost of a new garden into your budget. For example, we can adjust material choices and plant sizes, or stagger work in order to spread out the expenses.
No matter the size of your space, we can turn it into a dream garden.
Petstra’s gardening and landscaping services are tailored to suit all land sizes, allowing us to create stunning outdoor spaces in any backyard.
Our team of skilled landscape gardeners will utilise creative design landscaping techniques to make the most of the available area.
Upon completion of your new landscape construction, we provide on-site support and advice for a period of six weeks. We are committed to ensuring your satisfaction and are available to assist you whenever needed during this time.
We specialise in garden design, however, we do not provide ongoing gardening services such as weeding, lawn mowing, or pruning.
We are more than happy to recommend a reliable gardening service in your area that can help you maintain the beauty and health of your garden.
